If you rent from an expat, you will most likely pay first month, last month and a deposit, similar to the U.S. Terms may differ, however, if you rent from a Mexican company or individual. Our real estate expert Harriet Murray points out that Mexico has a full body of rental laws in the country’s civil code.

She recommends renters purchase a rental agreement form at stationery or office supply stores to document the terms of the agreement, if the landlord does not offer a written contract detailing the terms of rental.  Custom agreements should be written by a qualified attorney.
