La Paz is laid-back and family-friendly and has not yet been overrun with tourists or expats, which helps local rental and sales prices. However, it is close to Los Cabos. Prices are somewhat lower than Los Cabos, but significantly higher than Ensenada.

If you plan on renting an apartment in La Paz, a one-bedroom unit in the center of town is about US$400. A one-bedroom apartment outside of the downtown area is about US$290. If you need more space, a three-bedroom apartment downtown is about US$940. Outside of city center, a three-bedroom apartment usually rents for around US$480. These costs are averages and could be higher or lower, depending on the property rented.

By comparison, in Cabo San Lucas, a one-bedroom apartment in the city’s center is about US$440, a one-bedroom apartment outside of downtown costs about US$275, a three-bedroom apartment downtown is around US$860 and a three-bedroom apartment outside of the city- center is about US$625.

Costs are significantly higher here than Ensenada, where a one-bedroom apartment downtown costs about US$266, a one-bedroom apartment outside of the city-center is nearly US$165, a three-bedroom apartment in the city-center costs around US$580 and a three-bedroom apartment outside of the downtown area rents for about US$415.

In addition to selling homes, local real estate firms also list apartments, condos and houses for rent on their websites.

To find apartments, condos and houses for sale, you can use the Multiple Listing Service for Baja California Sur. You can also use Craigslist for BCS to look at additional listings. You should also check the websites of major international real estate firms that operate in Mexico, such as Coldwell Banker, Century 21, RE/MAX, and others.
